BMKG: Several Regions Potential for Rainfall on Sunday
The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) predicts that several regions in Indonesia are potential candidates for rainfall on Sunday, although dry weather conditions will still dominate most of the country.
BMKG forecaster Vita, in an official broadcast monitored from Jakarta, mentioned the presence of cyclonic circulation in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh, which is creating areas of wind deceleration and wind convergence. “These conditions have the potential to increase the growth of rain clouds around the circulation area,” said Vita.
In Sumatra, moderate rain is potential in Padang, while light rain is predicted for Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Jambi, and Bengkulu. On the islands of Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, light rain may occur in Serang, Bandung, Semarang, and Mataram. Meanwhile, Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, and Kupang are forecast to be partly cloudy to heavily cloudy.
In the Sulawesi region, light rain is potential in Mamuju, while Gorontalo, Manado, Makassar, and Kendari are forecast to be partly cloudy to heavily cloudy. For Maluku and Papua, light rain is potential in Manokwari and Jayapura, with cloudy to heavily cloudy conditions predicted for Ternate, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.
BMKG also warned air transport users to be wary of the presence of rain clouds or cumulonimbus clouds in several regions, including northern to central Sumatra, the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, the northern and central Malacca Strait, West Java, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, and the Highland Papua region.
For those engaged in maritime activities, BMKG predicts that winds in Indonesian waters will generally blow at speeds of 6 to 26 knots. Sea waves as high as 2.5 to 4 metres are potential in the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu and Lampung, as well as the Indian Ocean south of Banten to West Nusa Tenggara.
BMKG emphasised that although dry weather still dominates, heavy rain can still occur locally. The public is advised to adjust their activities and travel according to weather conditions and to monitor the latest information through official BMKG channels.
