BMKG Reveals Rp 2.126 Trillion Budget Shortfall for 2027
The Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Teuku Faisal Fathani, has revealed a budget backlog for 2027. Faisal stated that the total budget requirement for BMKG in 2027 reaches Rp 4.649 trillion, while the available budget ceiling is only Rp 2.523 trillion.
“Regarding the 2027 budget backlog, based on the Strategic Plan, BMKG’s budget needs for 2027 reach Rp 4.649 trillion, whereas the available budget ceiling is Rp 2.523 trillion. There is a backlog of Rp 2.126 trillion,” said Faisal during a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2026).
“This consists of various breakdowns; the backlog covers various operational needs, management support programmes, and non-operational activities for MKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics) programmes,” he added.
Faisal noted that the BMKG budget ceiling for 2027, amounting to Rp 2.523 trillion, is allocated to various programmes. These include management support programmes worth Rp 1.24 trillion and MKG programmes worth Rp 1.28 trillion.
“With the 2027 ceiling of Rp 2.523 trillion, we will optimise it to maintain operations, strengthen MKG infrastructure, maintain operational equipment, and improve the quality of information and early warnings,” he explained.
BMKG has also allocated funds for several priority programmes in 2027. These include Earthquake Field Schools targeting 2,370 participants, Climate Field Schools, and the maintenance of 314 units of primary MKG equipment at the central level and 1,914 units in regional areas.
“For the SBSN (State Budget Infrastructure Securities), the funds amount to Rp 273.89 billion, intended for various activities, primarily the construction of service building infrastructure in 20 locations,” he said.
“Furthermore, of great importance is the construction of 3 units of C-Band radar in Bali, Aceh, and Padang, as well as 1 unit of X-Band maritime radar in Manado,” he continued.
Furthermore, Faisal explained that the implementation of Weather Modification Operations (OMC) has reached over 95% to date. He stated that OMC is conducted as an early effort to reduce extreme hydrometeorological risks and meet water requirements.
“Regarding Weather Modification Operations, this continues to run as an early action to reduce extreme hydrometeorological risks and meet water needs, with a realisation rate of over 95%,” he clarified.
He added that BMKG is also running several other strategic programmes in 2026, including Climate Field Schools, Earthquake Field Schools, and Weather Field Schools for fishermen.
