BMKG Predicts Longer Dry Season, Peak to Last Until September
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has announced that the peak of the 2026 dry season is predicted to occur from August to September, with a longer duration and drier conditions than usual. “As we conveyed in the press releases last March and May, the peak of the 2026 dry season is predicted to occur mostly from August to September this year,” said BMKG Deputy for Climatology Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan during a press conference at his office on Thursday (30/7/2026). Approximately 48.8 per cent of Indonesia’s territory will enter the peak of the dry season in August, while around 25 per cent will do so in September. Consistent with previous predictions, the dry season is expected to be drier and longer than normal. He explained that the dry season in Indonesia always originates from the south-eastern region, typically beginning in East Nusa Tenggara before gradually spreading westward.
