BMKG NTB issues warning for 1.9-metre tidal floods

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential tidal flooding that could affect coastal areas of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) from 26 July to 1 August 2026. Head of the Zainuddin Abdul Madjid (ZAM) Meteorological Station, Satria Topan Primadi, stated that maximum sea tides of up to 1.9 metres could cause coastal inundation. BMKG noted the potential for high tides in the coastal areas of West Lombok Regency between 09.00 and 12.00 WITA, whilst in the coastal areas of Bima Regency, high tides are expected from 08.00 to 13.00 WITA. Areas potentially affected by tidal flooding on Lombok Island include Ampenan, Sekarbela, Gerung, Lembar, Pemenang, Jerowaru, and Labuhan Lombok. Meanwhile, on Sumbawa Island, the potential impact of high tides is forecast for Sumbawa, Labuhan Badas, Palibelo, Woha, Bolo, Langgudu, Soromandi, Sape, Rasanae Barat, Hu’u, and Asakota. The current tidal phenomenon is influenced by the gravitational pull of the full moon occurring on 29 July 2026. This astronomical event is dubbed the ‘Buck Moon’, a name given because male deer antlers typically emerge annually during the mid-summer period in the northern hemisphere in July. The distance between the Earth and the Moon during this Buck Moon will be 379,433 kilometres, with the full phase occurring at 22.35 WITA. The moon will be above the horizon from sunset until dawn.
