BMKG: Most of Indonesia Likely to Experience Rain on Saturday
The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) forecasts that most major cities in Indonesia will experience rain of varying intensities on Saturday.
“For the western part of Indonesia, there is a potential for thunderstorms in Palembang, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda,” said BMKG forecaster Afif in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta, Saturday.
In addition to the warning of rain accompanied by lightning, BMKG also predicts that several major cities in the same region will experience lower rainfall.
Furthermore, he mentioned that there is a potential for moderate rain in the cities of Medan, Palangkaraya, and Tanjung Selor.
Meanwhile, light rain is expected to dominate most of the other western regions and the island of Java.
“Then there is a potential for light rain in Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkalpinang, Bandar Lampung, all of Java Island and Pontianak,” he added.
Not only the potential for rain, people in the city of Banda Aceh are also expected to experience weather conditions with thick clouds covering the area.
For other regions of Sumatra, BMKG conveyed that there is a potential for hazy air, which will specifically occur in the cities of Jambi and Bengkulu.
Moving on to monitoring the eastern part of Indonesia, BMKG also advises the public to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in the areas of Manado and Jayawijaya.
“Then there is a potential for moderate rain in Mamuju, Gorontalo, and Ternate,” he explained, detailing the weather conditions for the eastern region.
In conclusion, he detailed a number of cities in the central and eastern regions that have the potential to experience light rain, including Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Palu, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, and Merauke.
