BMKG: Mataram Expected to See Rain Begin in November
Mataram (ANTARA) - The Mataram City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) said coordination with the Mataram office of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) indicated that October 2026 would mark the start of the formation of rain-bearing cloud systems over the city.
“Rain is expected to begin in November at normal intensity. The rainy season in Mataram and surrounding areas is forecast to peak in January 2027,” BPBD Mataram chief executive Budi Wartono said in Mataram on Tuesday.
His comments came after early rain clouds and drizzle had appeared in Mataram over the past few days, although no heavy rain had been recorded so far.
Preparations for the rainy season were already under way, he said. The agency was coordinating with the Mataram Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency to remove sediment and rubbish from waterways, drainage channels and rivers.
“We are also continuing to monitor wave conditions along the coast,” Budi said.
On the impact of the dry season, Budi said Mataram had not experienced the extreme drought reported in several other regencies and cities in the province.
“Thankfully, clean water supplies to meet daily needs remain adequate and safe,” he said.
Field monitoring showed that residents’ clean-water supplies remained relatively secure, with no reports of wells drying up.
Agricultural activity was also continuing normally, without extreme drought causing crop failures or preventing planting, he said.
Although water levels in irrigation channels had fallen because of reduced supplies from upstream areas, the flow remained sufficient to irrigate farmland.
