BMKG: Light rain expected in western Indonesia on Monday

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged the public to be alert to the potential for light-intensity rain in a number of major cities in western Indonesia on Monday.

“For western Indonesia, there is a potential for light rain in Medan, Padang, Bengkulu, Bandarlampung, Pontianak and Tanjung Selor,” said BMKG forecaster M. Rizky in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta on Monday.

M. Rizky said that clear-cloudy, cloudy to heavily overcast conditions are likely to cover Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkalpinang, most of Java, Samarinda and Banjarmasin.

In addition to cloud cover and rainfall, he also noted the possibility of hazy conditions specifically in Palembang and Palangka Raya.

Turning to monitoring in eastern Indonesia, BMKG issued a fairly varied weather forecast, ranging from light rainfall to the dominance of thick clouds in various cities.

“For eastern Indonesia, there is a potential for light rain in Mamuju, Palu, Ambon, Nabire and Jayapura, and potential cloudy to heavily overcast conditions in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayawijaya and Merauke,” he added, detailing the weather for the eastern region.
