Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has alerted the public to prepare for potential rainfall across several regions on Sunday.

BMKG weather forecaster Selly Brillian, delivering the weather forecast in Jakarta on Sunday, reported that western Indonesia faces the potential for rainfall with varying intensity, ranging from light to thunderstorms.

“In western Indonesia, residents should be alert to the potential for thunderstorms in Palembang and Tanjung Selor,” she stated.

Additionally, she noted the potential for medium-intensity rainfall in several major cities including Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Palangkaraya.

Light rainfall is forecast for Medan, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Semarang, Surabaya, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin.

Selly also cautioned that thick cloud cover in several cities could reduce visibility and affect outdoor activities.

For eastern Indonesia, Selly urged residents to remain alert to the potential for thunderstorms and medium-intensity rainfall.

“In eastern Indonesia, residents should be alert to the potential for thunderstorms in Mamuju and medium-intensity rainfall in Kupang,” she continued.

Light rainfall is forecast for several other eastern regions including Denpasar, Manado, Kendari, Makassar, Ternate, Ambon, and much of Papua.

BMKG also notes the potential for thick cloud cover in Mataram and Gorontalo, as well as hazy air conditions in Palu.

BMKG urges the public to remain alert to weather changes that may occur at any time, particularly for those engaging in outdoor activities or planning to travel between cities.
