BMKG Issues Early Warning for Potential Extreme Weather in Jakarta
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for the potential of extreme weather in the Jakarta area. Until Sunday (29/3/2026), the Jakarta region and the Thousand Islands are expected to be hit by rain with heavy to very heavy intensity.
The Acting Head of the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, stated that the public must increase their preparedness to face the potential for extreme weather. One measure is to prepare basic equipment such as umbrellas and raincoats, as well as emergency bags.
“The public is urged to always remain vigilant and alert to face the impacts of extreme weather,” he said in his statement on Thursday (26/3/2026).
Meanwhile, the Head of the Water Resources Department (SDA) of Jakarta Province, Ika Agustin Ningrum, emphasised that all SDA personnel are in full readiness. She assured that all flood control devices are functioning optimally, both before, during, and after high-intensity rain.
“Flood mitigation is a collaborative effort that requires speed, accuracy, and infrastructure readiness,” she said.
She explained that preparations for flood control facilities and infrastructure are continuously carried out, including stationary pumps, mobile pumps, and water gates to ensure they operate at maximum capacity, both in the pre-flood phase and during flood handling. Based on data up to 13 March 2026, there are 668 stationary pump units spread across 243 locations. In addition, there are 537 mobile pump units distributed across five administrative regions of Jakarta.
“Mobile pumps are used to reach pooling points that cannot be served by stationary pumps,” she said.
