BMKG Issues Alert for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds in Jakarta Metropolitan Area Today
Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged the public to exercise caution against potential rainfall that may be accompanied by lightning or thunder and strong winds in parts of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) on Monday.
BMKG forecaster Sufia Nur reported in Jakarta on Monday that light to moderate rainfall is expected across several areas over the next 24 hours.
“In the morning from 07.00 to 13.00 WIB, weather in Jabodetabek will generally be cloudy to heavily cloudy with potential light rainfall across most areas,” she said.
Moving into the afternoon and evening from 13.00 to 19.00 WIB, cloudy to heavily cloudy conditions will continue to dominate. Light rainfall is expected across most areas, whilst light to moderate rainfall is forecast for parts of East Jakarta, South Jakarta, Tangerang Regency, and South Tangerang City.
According to BMKG’s forecast, in the evening from 19.00 to 01.00 WIB, conditions will generally be cloudy to heavily cloudy accompanied by potential strong winds across the entire Jabodetabek region. Surface winds will blow from the southwest to west at speeds of 5–45 kilometres per hour.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (3 March) in the early morning from 01.00 to 07.00 WIB, light rainfall is expected in parts of the Thousand Islands, North Jakarta, and Bogor Regency, with conditions remaining generally cloudy to heavily cloudy.
BMKG noted that air temperatures in Bogor City and Bogor Regency range between 20–28 degrees Celsius, whilst other areas in Jabodetabek are between 24–30 degrees Celsius with air humidity of 70–90 per cent.
