The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Yogyakarta Meteorological Station has identified a tropical cyclone influencing weather patterns across parts of Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Based on the latest atmospheric dynamics analysis, Tropical Cyclone ‘BAVI’ has been observed in the Pacific Ocean north of Papua, causing easterly wind patterns to continue dominating weather conditions over most of Java and DIY, said Head of the Yogyakarta Meteorological Station Feriomex Hutagalung in a statement in Yogyakarta on Saturday. According to him, the latest analysis also indicates that the vertical profile of air humidity in the DIY region at altitudes of 1.5 to 3 km (850 to 700 mb level) ranges from approximately 40 to 90 percent. Taking this into account, the Yogyakarta Meteorological Station forecasts a three-day weather outlook for the DIY region from 5 to 7 July of sunny and cloudy conditions, with southern sea wave heights varying from moderate to high categories. On 5 July, conditions are expected to be sunny and cloudy with wave heights of 1.25 to 2.5 metres (moderate); on 6 July, sunny and cloudy with wave heights of 1.25 to 2.5 metres (moderate); and on 7 July, sunny and cloudy with wave heights of 2.5 to 4 metres (high). He advised southern coast tourists not to swim or engage in activities too close to the shoreline and to follow the instructions of officers. Fishermen and those involved in marine activities are urged to be wary of high waves and strong winds, and to consider postponing going to sea if weather conditions are unsafe. The BMKG Yogyakarta Meteorological Station also requested that the public in DIY continue to monitor the latest weather information with more detailed regional coverage through BMKG social media channels or the nearest BMKG office.
