BMKG Hang Nadim: Rain Chances Still Loom Over Several Batam Areas
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at the Class I Hang Nadim Meteorological Station in Batam has forecast that the chance of rain still looms over several areas of Batam City on Sunday (14/6). Morning weather conditions are generally expected to be clear and cloudy to overcast, with the potential for light to moderate rain from midday to late afternoon.
A forecaster at BMKG Hang Nadim Batam stated that atmospheric conditions in the Riau Islands region remain quite conducive to the growth of rain clouds. High air humidity and daytime surface heating are the main factors triggering the formation of convective clouds that cause rain.
βIn general, the weather in Batam today is forecast to be cloudy and still has the potential for light to moderate rain from midday to late afternoon. The public is urged to remain alert to weather changes that can occur at any time,β said the BMKG Hang Nadim Batam forecaster on Sunday (14/6).
Based on weather forecast data, air temperatures in Batam are expected to range between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius with humidity levels reaching 73 to 92 percent. These conditions are considered quite ideal to support the growth of rain clouds in several areas.
BMKG predicts the rain may occur locally and unevenly. Some areas with the potential to experience rain include Batam Centre, Sekupang, Batu Aji, Sagulung, Bengkong, Batu Ampar, and Nongsa. However, the intensity of the rain is generally in the light to moderate category with a relatively short duration.
In addition to rain, the public is also asked to be aware of the possibility of lightning and temporary strong winds that can accompany the growth of rain clouds. This phenomenon is common during dynamic weather periods, especially when there is an increase in convective activity in the atmosphere.
BMKG recorded wind speeds in the Batam area ranging from 2 to 6 knots with the dominant wind direction blowing from the southeast to southwest. Meanwhile, visibility is generally still in the safe category to support land, sea, and air transportation activities.
For road users, BMKG urges greater caution when driving during rain. Slippery road conditions and reduced visibility can potentially increase the risk of traffic accidents.
Meanwhile, flight activities at Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam are expected to continue operating normally. Nevertheless, weather monitoring is still carried out periodically to anticipate possible operational disruptions due to sudden weather changes.
In the maritime sector, the waters around Batam and its surroundings remain relatively conducive. Wave heights are forecast to be in the low category, making them still safe for shipping and inter-island crossing activities. However, fishermen and sea transport service users are urged to continue paying attention to the latest weather information before sailing.
BMKG urges the public to continue monitoring weather developments through official BMKG channels. With weather conditions still dynamic, vigilance is needed so that the public can anticipate the potential for rain or localised extreme weather.
