BMKG: Friday sees widespread light rain across Indonesia

BMKG weather forecaster Masayu F, in a briefing in Jakarta on Friday, said there is potential for light rain in Padang, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, most of Java and Kalimantan, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Mamuju, Palu, Ternate, Ambon, Jayapura, and Merauke. In addition, there is potential for rain accompanied by thunder in Banjarmasin, potential heavy rain in Yogyakarta, and potential thick cloud cover in Banda Aceh, Medan, and Tanjung Pinang. “For the eastern part of Indonesia, be aware there is potential for moderate rain in Denpasar, Manado, Nabire, and Jayawijaya,” Masayu said. He also noted that atmospheric dynamics cause the weather potential to be quite significant in several areas of Indonesia. Therefore, he said, public preparedness should be enhanced to face potential heavy to very heavy rain in the Bangka Belitung Islands, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.
