BMKG Forecasts Thunderstorms to Strike Several Major Cities on Wednesday
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) forecasts that several major cities in Indonesia are likely to experience rain of varying intensity, ranging from light rain to rain accompanied by thunderstorms, on Wednesday. BMKG forecaster Nur M. Rizky, in a daily weather forecast update monitored in Jakarta on Wednesday morning, stated that the potential for rain accompanied by thunderstorms needs to be watched out for in several regions, such as western Indonesia, where rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely to occur in Pekanbaru, Riau; Surabaya, East Java; and Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. “Meanwhile, in eastern Indonesia, the potential for rain accompanied by thunderstorms is forecast to occur in Denpasar, Bali; Palu, Central Sulawesi; and Manokwari, West Papua,” said Rizky. Furthermore, moderate-intensity rain is forecast to occur in Makassar, South Sulawesi; Mamuju, West Sulawesi; Gorontalo; and Merauke, South Papua. In addition to thunderstorms and moderate rain, BMKG also forecasts the potential for light rain to occur in most parts of Sumatra and Java. Light rain is also forecast to occur in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan; Samarinda, East Kalimantan; Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. Next are Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara; Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi; Manado, North Sulawesi; Ternate, North Maluku; Ambon, Maluku; Sorong, Southwest Papua; Nabire, Central Papua; Jayapura, Papua; and Jayawijaya, Papua Mountains. Regarding other weather conditions, BMKG forecasts that thick cloud cover is likely to occur in Medan, North Sumatra; and Pontianak, West Kalimantan. “Meanwhile, hazy conditions are forecast to occur in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan,” said Rizky. In line with this, BMKG advises the public to remain vigilant about the potential for weather that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
