BMKG forecasts thunderstorms and heavy rain across multiple Indonesian cities on Wednesday
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that several regions across Indonesia are likely to experience rainfall with varying intensity on Wednesday, ranging from light rain to thunderstorms.
BMKG forecaster Ina Indah, speaking in a weather forecast video monitored through the BMKG YouTube channel in Jakarta on Wednesday morning, stated that light rain is expected to occur in several major Indonesian cities, including Medan, North Sumatra; Padang, West Sumatra; Jakarta; and Semarang, Central Java.
“Light rain is also forecast to fall on Yogyakarta; Surabaya, East Java; Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan; Pontianak, West Kalimantan; Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan; Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara; Gorontalo; Mamuju, West Sulawesi; Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi; Ternate, North Maluku; Ambon, Maluku; and parts of Papua,” she said.
Meanwhile, she continued, moderate intensity rain is forecast in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. Similar conditions are also likely in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara; Manado, North Sulawesi; Makassar, South Sulawesi; Jayapura, Papua; and Merauke, South Papua.
Furthermore, Ina stated that BMKG also warned of potential thunderstorms in several regions, including Bengkulu; Palembang, South Sumatra; Bandar Lampung, Lampung; Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan; and Denpasar, Bali.
Additionally, partly cloudy to overcast conditions are forecast in Banda Aceh, Aceh; Pekanbaru, Riau; Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands; Jambi; Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung Islands; Serang, Banten; and Bandung, West Java.
Beyond rainfall, BMKG also noted potential smoke or haze in Palu, Central Sulawesi.
Regarding these various weather conditions, BMKG has urged the public to remain vigilant against potential weather changes and to update weather information through the official BMKG website at www.bmkg.go.id or through social media @info.bmkg.
