BMKG forecasts thick cloud over most of Indonesia on Wednesday

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that today, Wednesday, most parts of Indonesia will experience thick cloud cover.

BMKG forecaster Miftah Ali, speaking on a YouTube channel monitored from Jakarta, said that beginning with the Sumatra region, Pekanbaru and Pangkal Pinang are forecast to be cloudy, while Banda Aceh, Jambi and Bengkulu will see thick cloud. Light rain is likely to fall over Padang and Tanjung Pinang.

“Palembang and Bandar Lampung are forecast to experience hazy conditions. Be alert for moderate-intensity rain that may hit Medan,” he said.

Moving to Java, the weather in Yogyakarta, Semarang and Surabaya will be blanketed by thick cloud, while Serang, Jakarta and Bandung are forecast to see light rain.

For the Kalimantan region, Pontianak and Palangkaraya are forecast to experience hazy conditions, while Samarinda will see thick cloud. Tanjung Selor is likely to be hit by light-intensity rain.

“Be alert for potential smoke or haze that may affect the Banjarmasin area,” Miftah said.

For the Sulawesi region, Manado is forecast to be partly cloudy, while Makassar will be cloudy. Thick cloud is expected to cover Gorontalo, Palu and Kendari.

“Light-intensity rain is forecast to fall over Mamuju,” Miftah said.

Meanwhile, for Maluku and North Maluku, Ternate and Ambon are forecast to see thick cloud.

Moving to Papua, Sorong is forecast to experience thick cloud, while Manokwari and Nabire face potential smoke or haze. Merauke is forecast to see hazy conditions.

“Light-intensity rain is forecast to fall over Jayapura and Jayawijaya,” Miftah said.
