BMKG forecasts rain to dominate most major Indonesian cities on Wednesday

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that a number of major cities in Indonesia have the potential to be drenched by rain of varying intensities on Wednesday.

“For the western part of Indonesia, be aware of the potential for thunderstorms in Tanjung Pinang and Tanjung Selor,” said BMKG Forecaster Puji Sibuea in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In addition to the extreme weather warning, Puji also mentioned that the potential for light intensity rain is forecast to dominate most of the Sumatra region. Rainfall of the same intensity also has the chance to soak several major cities on the island of Kalimantan, such as Palangka Raya and Samarinda.

Meanwhile, cloudy weather conditions are forecast to cover the areas of Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, and Banjarmasin, accompanied by the potential for smoke or haze in Bandar Lampung.

“For the eastern part of Indonesia, be aware of the potential for thunderstorms in Nabire,” he said.

As for the potential for light rain in the eastern region, BMKG forecasts that such weather will occur in Mamuju, Palu, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are expected to colour the skies in several other areas, including Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, and Gorontalo.
