BMKG Forecasts Rain Across Several Regions on Friday

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that rain will sweep across several regions in Indonesia on Friday, caused by the presence of cyclonic circulation.

“Cyclonic circulation is expected to form in the South China Sea. This system may increase the potential for rain around northern to central Sumatra, the northern Natuna Sea, and northern Kalimantan,” said BMKG Forecaster Alya Sausan in a broadcast monitored from Jakarta on Friday.

Potential increases in rainfall are also expected from West Java to Banten, central Papua, and the waters north of Papua. Light rain is predicted to occur in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Tanjung Selor, and Samarinda.

Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya are expected to be cloudy to heavily overcast. There is also the potential for hazy air in Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Pontianak, and Banjarmasin, as well as the potential for smoke or fog in Palangkaraya.

For the eastern part of Indonesia, there is a warning for potential light rain in Palu, Mamuju, Manokwari, Nabire, and Jayapura.

Partly cloudy to heavily overcast conditions are expected in Manado, Makassar, Jayawijaya, Kupang, Gorontalo, Kendari, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, and Merauke.

In addition to rain, an increase in surface wind speeds should be anticipated in Bali, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, and South Papua.

These conditions may increase sea wave heights in the surrounding waters.
