BMKG Forecasts Light to Moderate Rain Across South Sumatra

Palembang (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that light to moderate rainfall is likely to drench several areas of South Sumatra Province between 28 and 31 July 2026.

Alan Aslani, head of the BMKG South Sumatra Analysis and Forecasting Team (forecaster), said in Palembang on Monday that the condition is driven by atmospheric dynamics in the South Sumatra region from 28 July to 3 August 2026, showing air mass flow dominated by easterly winds and supported by the spatially active Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO).

Nevertheless, most of South Sumatra is still expected to experience low rainfall. The public is urged to remain vigilant about this declining rainfall trend, as it has the potential to trigger an increase in hotspots.

As an anticipatory measure against forest and land fires (Karhutla), BMKG together with the Ministry of Forestry, the Indonesian Air Force, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), PT Rekayasa Atmosphere Indonesia (RAI), and relevant stakeholders conducted a Weather Modification Operation (OMC) in South Sumatra from 19 to 30 July 2026.
