Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has predicted the potential for heavy and very heavy rainfall across several major cities in Indonesia on Monday, 16 March 2026.

“Preparedness must be increased for potential heavy to very heavy rainfall in the regions of Bangka Belitung, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Papua, and Papua,” said BMKG forecaster Anisa during an online weather briefing held in Jakarta.

Specifically for major cities across the country, Anisa noted hazy weather conditions are expected in Banda Aceh and thick cloud cover in Tanjung Pinang.

Light rain is forecast to occur in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, Jambi, and Palembang, whilst rain accompanied by lightning is expected in Bandar Lampung and Pangkal Pinang.

Similar potential conditions are expected across Kalimantan, with light rain predicted in Pontianak, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda. During this period, BMKG also forecasts thunderstorms in the Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor areas.

For the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, light rain is possible in Denpasar and Mataram, with moderate intensity rainfall expected in Kupang.

In eastern Indonesia, BMKG predicts light rain potential in Ambon, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.
