BMKG Forecasts Heavy Rain Across Multiple Indonesian Regions on 18 July 2026
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that weather across various regions of Indonesia on Saturday (18/7) will be dominated by rain of varying intensity. The public in several areas is urged to increase vigilance against the potential for moderate to heavy rain, rain accompanied by lightning, and weather conditions that could disrupt activities.
In its weather forecast delivered via the BMKG YouTube channel, the agency explained that a cyclonic circulation is predicted to be located in the Makassar Strait. This system is forming areas of convergence and confluence in the Makassar Strait and surrounding regions.
Additionally, areas of wind slowdown (convergence) are predicted to form in the waters west of North Sumatra, waters west of Bengkulu, the Malacca Strait, Jambi, South Sumatra, waters north of Banten, the Java Sea, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, the Flores Sea, the eastern coast of Central Sulawesi, the Maluku Sea, Gorontalo, the Sulawesi Sea, northern North Sulawesi, the Pacific Ocean north of Southwest Papua, the Arafura Sea, Cenderawasih Bay, and the waters of Papua.
Meanwhile, wind confluence areas are predicted to form in the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, the Malacca Strait, the South China Sea, the Philippine Sea, and the Pacific Ocean north of Papua. According to BMKG, the combination of these atmospheric dynamics has the potential to increase the growth of rain clouds in several regions of Indonesia.
BMKG urges the public to increase vigilance against the potential for moderate to heavy rain in several areas, with rain accompanied by lightning also predicted to occur. Light rain is forecast for a number of cities in both Western and Eastern Indonesia, while clear to cloudy weather is expected in other cities.
BMKG also noted special weather conditions, including haze and smoke in certain areas. The agency advises the public to continuously update weather information through official BMKG channels before engaging in activities, especially for residents in areas with the potential for moderate to heavy rain or rain accompanied by lightning.
