Jakarta—Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that weather conditions during the Eid holiday travel period, spanning March through early April 2026, will be dominated by rainfall with light to heavy intensity across numerous regions of Indonesia.

BMKG head Teuku Faisal Fathani stated that based on BMKG forecasts, weather conditions during the March-to-early-April period will generally fall into the moderate-to-high rainfall category.

“For March, rainfall is generally predicted to fall into the moderate-to-high category. We must be aware of three provinces with potential for very high rainfall: West Java, Central Java, and South Sulawesi,” Faisal said during a coordination meeting for Eid travel preparations at the Indonesian Parliament building on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

“I have already mentioned the heavy rainfall areas requiring attention. However, during Eid itself, conditions are estimated to be dominated by cloudy skies with potential for heavy rain,” he explained.

He further elaborated that in April 2026, rainfall across numerous regions will remain in the moderate-to-high category, though gradually declining progressively.

“In April, rainfall is generally predicted to remain in the moderate-to-high category. So it is estimated that up to this week, particularly in Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, rainfall will remain quite high, and entering next week it will begin declining,” he said.

According to Faisal, weather conditions during the travel and holiday period are influenced by several atmospheric dynamics that increase rainfall potential.

Faisal added that BMKG will continue updating weather forecast information during the Eid travel and holiday period to serve as a reference for ministries and agencies in maintaining transport efficiency and public safety.

“BMKG will provide weather updates and atmospheric dynamics forecasts during the Eid holiday travel period this year. This is intended to serve as a reference for government preparedness across ministries and agencies in maintaining transport efficiency and public safety,” he concluded.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Territorial Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono predicted that the Eid holiday travel peaks would occur during two waves: 14-15 March and 18-19 March 2026.

“For the return travel, the peaks are estimated to fall on 24-25 March, and then again on 28-29 March,” said Yudhoyono during a press conference at the presidential palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Eid al-Fitr in 2026 is estimated to fall on 21 March.
