BMKG forecasts cloudy skies to light rain to dominate Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that most parts of Indonesia will experience cloudy weather to light rain on Monday.

BMKG forecaster Dendi, in a weather forecast video monitored in Jakarta on Monday morning, stated that western regions of Indonesia are generally predicted to be cloudy to light rain.

“For the western regions of Indonesia, it is generally predicted to be cloudy to light rain, with the potential for light rain visible in northern to central Sumatra, northern Kalimantan, and also in Java, where light rain is still possible, particularly in western Java such as the Serang area and around Bandung,” he said.

Potential light rain is also forecast to occur in several eastern regions of Indonesia, particularly western Sulawesi, Ambon, Maluku, and northern to central Papua.

Potential hazy air is still visible around central to southern Sumatra and East Kalimantan, which may reduce visibility.

Potential smoke or fog is still observed around the Banjarmasin area, which could affect breathing and decrease air quality.

BMKG has warned air transport users regarding the potential growth of cumulonimbus clouds that could disrupt flights in several regions.

The potential for cumulonimbus cloud growth is particularly visible in eastern Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, West Sumatra, eastern Jambi, western South Sumatra, Lampung, Bengkulu, and the western Mentawai Islands.

Similar conditions are also possible in northern West Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.

For eastern Indonesia, the potential for cumulonimbus cloud growth is visible in the Highland Papua and Papua regions, especially when aircraft are taking off, landing, or passing through the areas of cloud growth.

Therefore, BMKG advises members of the public using air transport to check the latest information from airports and airlines.
