BMKG explains the forecast of the dry season for Indonesia this year. Head of BMKG Teuku Faisal Fathani explained that the dry season in the archipelago is predicted to begin in April. “At the start of the dry season, most parts of Indonesia are forecast to enter the dry season in the April period, with 114 dry-season zones or 16.3 percent of all dry-season zones that exist in Indonesia, totalling 699,” Teuku said in an online press briefing on Wednesday (4/3/2026).

He explained that the dry season will begin in the Nusa Tenggara region. The hot weather will move westward gradually to other parts of Indonesia.

BMKG data explain that the start of the dry season in much of Indonesia will come earlier, i.e. in 325 dry-season zones or 46.5 percent of the total zones in Indonesia. During the dry-season period, rainfall will be in the dry category.

“Accumulated rainfall during the dry-season period in most of Indonesia, i.e. in 451 dry-season zones or 64.5 percent of all zones, is predicted to be below normal or simply drier than usual,” Teuku explained.

BMKG also explains that the peak of the dry season in most of Indonesia is predicted to occur in August. BMKG warns that this year’s dry season will be longer than usual.

“Most parts of Indonesia or in 400 dry-season zones or 57.2 percent are predicted to experience a longer dry season than normal. So it should be noted that the dry season we will face in 2026 will be longer than normal,” Teuku said.

He hopes that this BMKG forecast will serve as a guide for policymakers affected by climate factors.

“We hope the information predicting the 2026 dry season can be a general guide in setting out mitigation and anticipation planning steps as well as long-term policies for various sectors affected by climate,” Teuku concluded.
