The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for the Bangka Belitung Islands province predicts that the dry season in the archipelago will be longer and drier due to low rainfall caused by the El Nino Godzilla natural phenomenon.

β€œThe dry season this year is drier, which carries the potential for forest and land fires as well as droughts,” said the Head of BMKG Bangka Belitung, Eko Sulistyo Nugroho, in Pangkalpinang on Wednesday.

He stated that based on spatial mapping of monthly rainfall predictions for the period of June to November 2026, several regions are expected to experience significantly drier conditions compared to other areas, particularly during the peak of the dry season in September 2026.

Regions likely to experience significantly drier conditions during the peak in September 2026 include West Bangka Regency, specifically in the Muntok, Simpang Teritip, and Tempilang districts.

According to the agency, the potential for drought in Pangkalpinang City is expected to be relatively even across all districts within the city. Central Bangka Regency is also expected to experience similar dry conditions in most areas, though slightly higher rainfall may occur in parts of the Koba and Lubuk Besar districts.

In South Bangka Regency, these conditions are expected in the Toboali, Tukak Sadai, and Lepar Pongok districts, as well as parts of the Air Gegas and Pulau Besar districts. Meanwhile, drought potential in Belitung Regency is expected in its western regions, while East Belitung is expected to face similar conditions in its eastern regions.
