From January to mid-May 2026, BMKG Kepahiang Geophysical Station recorded 208 earthquake events in Bengkulu Province. ‘Total from January 2026 to today (Tuesday, 19 May) there have been 208 earthquake events in Bengkulu Province,’ said Meteorology and Geophysics Analyst First Class Marsellei Justia of the Kepahiang Geophysical Station, in Bengkulu City, on Tuesday. He stated that the highest-magnitude earthquake was 5.7, occurring on 7 March 2026 in Mukomuko Regency and felt in Bengkulu Utara Regency, Silaut IV MMI, Bengkulu City, Kepahiang III MMI, Rejang Lebong Regency, and Lebong II MMI. However, he urged all residents of Bengkulu Province to remain vigilant about the hazards of earthquakes and to understand disaster mitigation steps. According to Marsellei, the public should also always prepare to evacuate if and when they feel an earthquake and not be swayed by information or irresponsible rumours. Moreover, areas most prone to earthquakes in Bengkulu Province are typically Enggano Island, Bengkulu Utara Regency, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Selatan Regency, and Kaur Regency.
