BMKG: Be vigilant for heavy rain in southern Central Java until the end of May
Heavy rainfall in the past two days was triggered by local factors, notably the growth of Cumulonimbus (Cb) clouds around Banyumas. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) says the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall remains possible across several southern parts of Central Java through the end of May 2026, even as some areas have begun the dry season. Teguh Wardoyo, head of the Data and Information Dissemination Service Working Group at BMKG’s Tunggul Wulung Cilacap Meteorological Station in Cilacap, said rainfall with intensities exceeding 50 millimetres per day was still recorded at several rainfall observation posts in Banyumas on 21–22 May 2026. On 21 May 2026, heavy rain was recorded at Pos Klapagading at 58 millimetres and Balai Desa Sumbang at 56 millimetres, while other areas experienced light to moderate rain,
