BMKG: Be alert to potential light rain to cloudy weather on Saturday

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged the public to be alert to the potential for light-intensity rain in several major cities in western Indonesia on Saturday.

“For western Indonesia, be alert to the potential for light rain in Medan, Padang, and Tanjung Selor,” said BMKG forecaster Henokhvita in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta on Saturday.

Despite the light rain warning, BMKG predicts that most other cities in western Indonesia will be dominated by partly cloudy to heavily overcast conditions.

Henokhvita mentioned that the potential for cloudy weather is likely to cover the areas of Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, most of Java, and Samarinda.

In addition to cloud cover and rainfall, BMKG also predicts the potential for haze in Pekanbaru, Jambi, Palembang, Pontianak, and Palangkaraya, as well as the potential for smoke or fog in Bandar Lampung and Banjarmasin.

“Moving to eastern Indonesia, be alert to the potential for moderate rain in Nabire, then the potential for light rain in Mamuju, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke,” he said.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to heavily overcast conditions are predicted to dominate other eastern regions, including Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, and Manokwari.

Not only rainfall and cloud cover, BMKG also noted the potential for hazy weather in Ambon City, as well as the potential for smoke or fog that is specifically likely to occur in Sorong.
