BMKG: Batam Weather Dominated by Cloudy Skies, Rain Possible from Afternoon to Evening

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Hang Nadim Batam forecasts that Batam’s weather on Sunday (31 May 2026) will be predominantly cloudy with potential rain from afternoon to evening. Residents are urged to remain vigilant for possible rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, which may occur locally in certain areas. This is due to high humidity levels fostering rain cloud formation in the Riau Islands. BMKG Hang Nadim Batam forecaster explained that morning to early afternoon conditions will be mostly cloudy to partly cloudy. However, as afternoon and evening approach, convective cloud growth is expected to increase, potentially causing light to moderate rain. “Generally, morning to midday weather will be cloudy to partly cloudy. However, from afternoon onwards, there is potential for rain cloud development leading to localised light to moderate showers,” said the BMKG Hang Nadim Batam forecaster on Sunday (31 May). Rain is also forecast for other areas in the Riau Islands besides Batam. However, weather conditions may vary across regions due to the localised nature of rainfall influenced by atmospheric dynamics. BMKG advises the public to exercise caution during outdoor activities, especially from afternoon to evening. Motorists are urged to anticipate slippery roads and reduced visibility during rainfall. For fishermen and maritime transport users, BMKG recommends monitoring the latest weather updates before setting out. Although wave conditions in parts of the Riau Islands waters remain relatively safe, sudden changes in wind direction and thunderstorms during rain should be monitored. Meanwhile, Batam’s temperature is expected to range between 26 and 33 degrees Celsius with high humidity, making it feel hot and muggy in the morning and early afternoon before possible rain in the evening.
