BMKG Batam Issues Thunderstorm Warning Until Early Morning

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Hang Nadim Batam Class I Meteorological Station has issued an early warning regarding the potential for extreme weather in Batam City, Kepulauan Riau. Rain accompanied by thunder is predicted to affect the region from midday until the early hours of Monday (15/6/2026).

The warning was issued following the detection of a wind shear phenomenon in the waters around the Kepulauan Riau. This atmospheric condition is triggering significant growth of convective clouds in the affected area.

A forecaster on duty at the BMKG Hang Nadim Batam station explained that overall weather conditions in the Kepulauan Riau are forecast to be cloudy with the potential for light to moderate rain. However, extra vigilance is required for certain areas.

Based on BMKG data analysis, the rain is predicted to be evenly distributed across all sub-districts of Batam, including Batu Aji, Batam Kota, Bengkong, Bulang, Galang, Lubuk Baja, Nongsa, Sagulung, and Batu Ampar.

In anticipation of the severe weather, BMKG urges the public to take precautionary measures, particularly those engaging in outdoor activities. Motorcyclists are advised to exercise extra caution due to slippery road conditions.

The public is also reminded not to take shelter under large trees or metal structures during thunderstorms to avoid the risk of lightning strikes. BMKG recommends that residents continue to monitor official information channels for updates on the dynamic weather conditions.
