BMKG analyses air convergence pattern triggering rainfall ahead of Eid 2026
Padang — Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class II Meteorological Station Minangkabau, Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra, has analysed the presence of an air convergence pattern in the province that can trigger moderate to heavy rainfall intensity ahead of Eid 2026.
“For the next 1 to 2 days, based on our analysis of wind patterns in West Sumatra, there is indeed still an air convergence pattern or meeting of air masses,” said Decky Irmawan, Head of BMKG Class II Meteorological Station Minangkabau, in Padang on Tuesday.
Decky explained that the meeting of air masses occurs from the north and south. This meeting can create an accumulation of moist air masses, thus potentially triggering rainfall in Ranah Minang (the Minangkabau region).
“From this forecast, BMKG sees the potential for rainfall today and tomorrow (18 March),” he said.
Meanwhile, on 18 March 2026, the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall intensity is estimated to occur only in two regions: Pasaman Barat District and Pasaman District.
“For 19 to 23 March, partly cloudy to light rainfall weather is forecast,” he said.
