As of this morning, no significant anomalies in sea-level rises or changes in surface current patterns indicating a potential tsunami have been detected.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Agency for Meteorology, Clises, and Geophysics (BMKG) stated that as of Tuesday, the eruptive activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has not triggered sea wave anomalies in the Sunda Strait.

Acting Deputy for Geophysics at BMKG, Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan, confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday that monitoring via 20 tsunami gauges and the HF Radar Array in the Carita and Tanjung Lesung areas recorded the probability of a tsunami at a low category, below 50 per cent.

“Up until this morning, no anomalies in sea-level rises or significant changes in surface current patterns indicating an impending tsunami have been detected,” he said.

In addition to monitoring sea waves, BMKG is also conducting Weather Modification Operations (OMC) to clear the atmosphere of volcanic ash exposure.

According to data from the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) as of Tuesday at 07:49 WIB, Mount Anak Krakatau recorded a new eruption categorised as Strombolian, or a small eruption, with a maximum amplitude of 48 mm lasting 19 seconds, accompanied by a decrease in the intensity of geomagnetic disturbances and volcanic lightning.

Furthermore, BMKG is performing weather interventions using one sortie of salt powder (NaCl) seeding, one sortie of CaCl2 liquid as a rain condensation nucleus, and three sorties of direct water mist spraying into the atmosphere.

Nevertheless, he reminded residents in areas affected by ash dispersal to continue limiting outdoor activities and to wear masks and protective eyewear to anticipate potential health disturbances.
