Medan (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said air quality in Medan was moderate at 8 am local time on Monday (26 October).

BMKG Region I head Hendro Nugroho said in Medan on Monday that satellite monitoring had detected no hotspots in North Sumatra as of 9 am on 26 October 2026.

“Meanwhile, monitoring of air quality in Medan shows that conditions in several parts of the city are in the moderate category,” he said.

Observations by Kualanamu Meteorological Station, FL. Tobing Meteorological Station, Silangit Meteorological Station and Aek Godang Meteorological Station detected no smoke in the morning, between about 7 am and 10 am. Visibility ranged from 1 to 8 kilometres.

Residents in areas with poor visibility were advised to take care when driving, reduce their speed, keep a safe distance and switch on their vehicle lights when necessary.

Residents were also advised to limit outdoor activities if air quality worsened and to wear an appropriate mask to reduce exposure to smoke particles.

Regional leaders were urged to coordinate with local disaster-management agencies (BPBD), the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to anticipate the impact of smoke and improve public preparedness.
