The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 118 earthquake activities in Bandung Regency and its surrounding areas during the period from 11 August to 17 September 2026, at 08:00 WIB.

Wijayanto, the Director of Earthquakes and Tsunamis at BMKG in Bandung, stated on Thursday that these 118 activities ranged in magnitude from 1.0 to 3.4, with 13 of these incidents being felt by the public.

“A total of 118 earthquake activities were recorded with magnitudes ranging from M1.0 to M3.4, and 13 earthquakes were felt in Pangalengan, Talegong, Cisewu, and surrounding areas,” said Wijayanto.

The earthquakes felt by the public had an intensity of II-III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale, meaning vibrations were noticeably felt inside houses, sometimes resembling the passing of a heavy truck.

Wijayanto explained that these were shallow earthquakes and are tectonically related to local fault activity in the region.

“The distribution of the earthquakes does not lie within the Garsela Fault Zone (Kendang Segment or Kencana Segment) or the Cicalengka Fault, but rather in an area that has not yet been mapped,” he added.

BMKG currently operates 35 seismic sensors distributed across West Java to detect and record earthquake activity, including micro-earthquakes or small-magnitude events, with a high level of precision.

The agency will continue to monitor earthquake activity and provide updated information to stakeholders and the public, while urging residents to remain calm and avoid being influenced by unverified information.
