The declaration of National Majelis Taklim Day has been officially launched as a form of respect for the millions of congregants, administrators, and activists of majelis taklim across Indonesia. This momentum marks recognition for decades of dedication in Islamic propagation, community education, societal empowerment, and the strengthening of national values.

Iin Kandedes, Chair of the Presidium of the Indonesian Muslim Women’s Consultative Body (BMIWI) for the 2025-2026 period, stated that this step is expected to be the beginning of stronger state support for majelis taklim as strategic partners in national development. “Through the declaration of National Majelis Taklim Day, we invite all elements of the nation, the government, community organisations, educational institutions, religious figures, and the public to jointly appreciate the historical role and tangible contributions of majelis taklim,” Iin said in an official statement on Monday (13/7). Iin added that this contribution is crucial in building an Indonesian society that is religious, morally upright, knowledgeable, and highly competitive.

The declaration was made as part of BMIWI’s 59th Anniversary celebrations held at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Sunday (12/7). This activity affirmed the position of majelis taklim as a pillar of non-formal Islamic education, strengthening family resilience, and a centre for women’s empowerment. For nearly six decades, BMIWI has consistently served as a synergistic platform for various Muslim women’s organisations in Indonesia. Through its extensive network of majelis taklim, the organisation continues to strive to improve religious literacy and instil Islamic values that are moderate, inclusive, and rahmatan lil ’alamin. This 59th anniversary also became an important milestone in strengthening collaboration between the government and society, with the aim of making majelis taklim a centre for lifelong learning that is adaptive to the times, yet remains steadfast in upholding the nation’s identity and Islamic values.
