Blueray Boss Trial Reveals Alleged Rp21 Billion Payment to Customs Director General
The trial of Blueray Cargo (Group) executive John Field, who is accused of bribing several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, has revealed an alleged receipt of approximately Rp21 billion by the Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama. During the hearing, it emerged that the Director General allegedly received the money in stages, totalling seven occasions.
The details of the money allegedly intended for Djaka were read out by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Public Prosecutor while examining John Field as a defendant at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Friday (12/6). Initially, John Field confirmed the use of the code BC1 for Djaka Budhi, BC2 for Rizal, the Director of Enforcement and Investigation for the 2024 to January 2026 period, and BC3 for Sisprian Subiaksono, the Head of the Intelligence Sub-Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation. John Field explained that these codes were conveyed orally by Orlando Hamonangan, the Head of the Customs Intelligence Section.
Rizal, Sisprian, and Orlando are also being processed by the KPK, but their cases are still at the investigation stage. John Field confirmed the contents of the Examination Report read out by the prosecutor. The payments were detailed as follows: in July 2025, an accumulated Rp8.2 billion, with BC1 Djaka Budhi Utama receiving Rp3 billion, BC2 Rizal Rp2 billion, and BC3 Sisprian Rp1 billion. In August, the accumulated amount was Rp8.95 billion in Singapore dollars, with the same distribution. This pattern of Rp8.95 billion payments, with Rp3 billion for Djaka, Rp2 billion for Rizal, and Rp1 billion for Sisprian, continued monthly through September, October, November, December 2025, and January 2026.
John Field stated he believed the money had reached the parties named by Orlando according to the codes. This belief, he said, arose because Orlando never complained. When the prosecutor asked if Orlando had ever conveyed any grievances from the recipients that the money had not arrived, John Field replied, “Never.” He affirmed that this convinced him the money reached the coded recipients as Orlando had said.
John Field is charged with bribing several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise with a total of Rp61 billion and providing entertainment facilities and luxury goods worth Rp1.8 billion. The bribery was allegedly carried out by John Field together with co-defendant Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo, Operational Manager of Port Custom Clearance at Blueray Cargo (Group), and co-defendant Andri, Head of the Import Documentation Team at Blueray Cargo (Group). The recipients of the bribes include Rizal, Sisprian Subiaksono, and Orlando Hamonangan. The cluster of Customs and Excise officials will be prosecuted in a separate case file. Of the total amount, Rizal allegedly received at least Rp14 billion, Sisprian Rp7 billion, and Orlando around Rp4.05 billion. The remainder was allegedly enjoyed by other parties not yet processed legally, including Enov Puji Wijanarko, Head of the Import Enforcement Section I. The facilities provided included entertainment worth Rp1.45 billion, a Tag Heuer watch worth Rp65 million for Orlando, and a Mazda CX-5 car worth Rp330 million for Enov Puji Wijanarko. The prosecutor stated the bribes were given so that Customs and Excise officials would expedite the release of Blueray Cargo’s imported goods from customs supervision.
Regarding the alleged bribe receipt by Djaka Budhi Utama, the KPK previously stated it would conduct a separate examination of the Director General after the trial with the Blueray Cargo executive defendant concludes. KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu said they were waiting for reports from the public prosecutor on witness testimonies presented in court. Meanwhile, Djaka briefly addressed the case during an APBN Kita press conference at the Ministry of Finance office, stating, “Regarding the importation issues at Customs, let us just follow the trial developments together.” Djaka Budhi Utama is a retired three-star general of the Indonesian Army.
