Blueray Boss Met Customs Official Through BPK Member
The owner of PT Blueray Cargo (Group), John Field, admitted he obtained the phone number and was introduced to defendant Rizal, the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, by Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) member Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana. Nyoman previously served as Head of the Manado Customs Office in 2017 and Head of the Ternate Customs Office in 2016.
This was conveyed by John Field when he appeared as a witness in a case of alleged bribery related to import activities within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (21/7). Besides Rizal, the other defendants in this trial are Sisprian Subiaksono, the Intelligence Sub-Directorate Head at the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation, and Orlando Hamonangan, the Head of Customs Intelligence Section I at the same directorate.
During the trial, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) public prosecutor read out John Field’s official examination report, Number 73. The prosecutor asked John Field to confirm the name of Nyoman Adhi, who introduced him to Rizal. "After I recalled, the person who introduced me to Rizal was Nyoman, who is currently a member of the BPK RI," said prosecutor Takdir Suhan, quoting the contents of John Field’s examination report. In the report, Nyoman was said to have suggested that John Field contact Rizal. Afterwards, John Field and Rizal held a meeting at a restaurant in the North Jakarta area. "Is that correct, is this a confirmation," said Takdir. "Yes," replied John Field. The prosecutor sought confirmation from John Field because he initially claimed to have forgotten, requiring the prosecutor to guide him by reading out the examination report.
The prosecutor also showed a photograph of Nyoman Adhi during the trial to help refresh John Field’s memory. John Field confirmed that one of the two people in the photograph was Nyoman Adhi. "Alright. The man in the shirt, sir. We confirm his name is Mr Nyoman Adhi," said the prosecutor. "The one I know is Mr Nyoman," John Field acknowledged. "Mr Nyoman, but this is his face, correct?" the prosecutor pressed. "Correct," John Field replied briefly. John Field said he knew Nyoman when the latter was still serving at Customs and Excise. Currently, Nyoman is no longer assigned to Customs and Excise but is at the BPK.
John Field has already been convicted in this case along with two of his subordinates from PT Blueray Cargo, Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo and Andri. Their case has permanent legal force. They were the parties who gave bribes totalling Rp63.9 billion to defendant Rizal and his associates. The bribe consisted of Rp61.7 billion in cash in Singapore dollars, and entertainment facilities and luxury goods worth Rp1.8 billion. In addition to the bribery, there is an indictment regarding the acceptance of gratuities totalling Rp7.5 billion, Sin$314,755, Sin$182,800, HKD4,700, and RM8,100 from various private parties, including importers and cigarette entrepreneurs, as well as other parties whose business activities were related to the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
