Blueray Boss Alleges Customs Director General Received Rp21 Billion in Bribes
The Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama, is alleged to have received approximately Rp21 billion in a bribery case involving several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The allegation was made during the trial of the case, revealed by defendant John Field, head of Blueray Cargo (Group), at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Friday (12/6). Djaka is said to have received the money totalling Rp21 billion in stages, across seven occasions. The details of the money allegedly intended for Djaka were read out by the KPK Public Prosecutor while examining John Field as a defendant. During the trial, John Field confirmed the use of the code BC1 for Djaka Budhi, BC2 for Rizal, the Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise for the period 2024 to January 2026, and BC3 for Sisprian Subiaksono, the Head of the Intelligence Sub-Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation. All three are currently being legally processed by the KPK, but their cases remain at the investigation stage. John Field also stated that these codes were conveyed verbally by Orlando Hamonangan, the Head of the Customs Intelligence Section. He also confirmed the contents of the Examination Report read out by the prosecutor. “The payment in July 2025 accumulated to Rp8.2 billion. BC1 Director General of Customs Djaka Budhi Utama Rp3 billion, BC2 Bang Rizal Rp2 billion, BC3 Sis Rp1 billion,” said Prosecutor Takdir Suhan, reading John Field’s Examination Report. “Correct,” replied John Field. The prosecutor continued detailing payments for August through January 2026, each accumulating to SGD 8.95 billion, with the same breakdown: BC1 Djaka Budhi Utama receiving Rp3 billion, BC2 Rizal receiving Rp2 billion, and BC3 Sis receiving Rp1 billion each month. John Field affirmed his belief that the money had reached the parties referred to by Orlando according to the codes, stating that this conviction arose because there were never any complaints from Orlando. In this case, John Field is charged with bribing several officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise with a total of Rp61 billion and providing entertainment facilities and luxury goods worth Rp1.8 billion. The bribery was allegedly carried out together with co-defendants Dedy Kurniawan Sukolo, Operational Manager of Custom Clearance at the Port for Blueray Cargo, and Andri, Head of the Import Documentation Team at Blueray Cargo. The alleged bribe recipients include Rizal, Sisprian Subiaksono, and Orlando Hamonangan. Regarding the alleged involvement of Director General Djaka Budhi Utama, the KPK stated it will summon him for questioning after the trial of the Blueray Cargo head concludes. KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, explained that what the prosecutor read in the indictment came from witness statements during the investigation process. Separately, Djaka has also spoken about the case. When asked about the Blueray case allegations, he only gave a brief response, saying, “Regarding importation issues at Customs, let us just follow the trial developments together.”
