Blora Regent Arief Rohman has been re-elected unopposed as chairman of the Central Java Regional Leadership of Pagar Nusa at its fourth regional conference, held at the Blora Regent’s official residence on Sunday (18 October).

His second term places organisational consolidation, stronger member development and wider community service among the key priorities for Pagar Nusa in Central Java.

Arief said unity was essential to ensure that Pagar Nusa, a pencak silat organisation, not only grew as a martial arts body but also strengthened athlete development, upheld Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) values and delivered tangible benefits to the public.

“Unity is the main asset for advancing Pagar Nusa in Central Java. The organisation’s strength lies in the solidarity of all its ranks, from the regional and branch levels downwards. We must therefore continue to maintain communication and co-ordination,” Arief said.

The conference, preceded by preparatory activities on 17 October 2026, was attended by the Central Java regional leadership and branch heads from across the province. The forum provided an opportunity to review the organisation and discuss its direction for the next leadership term.

Arief said differences of opinion within the organisation should be resolved through deliberation, with the common interest taking priority. Strong co-ordination at every level, he added, should help improve member development, athlete coaching and institutional capacity-building.

“With a united front, we can carry out member development, athlete coaching, institutional strengthening and service to Nahdlatul Ulama more effectively. The progress of Pagar Nusa in Central Java is our shared responsibility,” he said.

Pagar Nusa national chairman Muchamad Nabil Haroen said organisational development must be matched by benefits for the public. He urged members to use their skills and strength to protect and assist people and help them feel safe.

“Pagar Nusa must be a source of solutions in the community. Our members’ presence should make people feel safe, protected and supported. They must not become a source of problems,” Nabil said.

To broaden members’ community service, Pagar Nusa is also seeking to improve their skills in various fields. This includes a plan, being explored with the National Advocates Council of Indonesia, to provide 2,000 members with access to special professional advocate education.

Nabil also outlined plans to develop e-Pagar Nusa, a digital administration system expected to take 12 to 14 months to complete. The system is designed to integrate administrative services, management of organisational structures, membership data, athletes’ records of achievement and legal assistance services.

Meanwhile, KH Ubaidillah Shodaqoh, head of the Central Java NU Regional Council’s Syuriah, stressed that preaching and character-building must remain at the heart of Pagar Nusa’s mission. He also urged the organisation to preserve its identity and ensure political interests did not displace its commitment to service.

The fourth regional conference was also attended by Central Java NU Regional Council deputy chairman Agus Riyanto, as well as representatives of the Blora Regional House of Representatives, police, military and the Ministry of Religious Affairs office. As part of the event, members took an oath of allegiance to Pagar Nusa and Nahdlatul Ulama.
