Blora Regency Government Guarantees Full Scholarship for Child of Suicide Victim

The Blora Regency Government has confirmed it will provide an educational scholarship to the child of M, a 41-year-old housewife from Mojorembun Village, Kradenan District, who died in an apparent suicide linked to economic strain over her child’s schooling costs. The case has drawn serious attention from the local administration. Blora Regent Arief Rohman expressed deep concern and said he hoped such an incident would be the last and not recur in the future. “I hope this is the last such incident and it will not happen again,” he said on Wednesday (24/6). According to Arief, the event is a heavy blow for the Blora administration, especially as the local government is intensifying poverty alleviation programmes and promoting compulsory 12-year education, even opening opportunities for support through to higher education. He said the regency has implemented various efforts to broaden educational access for residents, particularly underprivileged families, including a ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School) with a boarding system from elementary to senior high school level, as well as distributing various scholarship programmes. Arief assessed that the case involving the victim’s family serves as an important lesson for the local government. He urged Blora residents to immediately report to the authorities if they face difficulties in financing their children’s education. “Report to us if you are having trouble funding education,” he said. Following up on the case, the Blora administration has deployed a team to the location and prepared educational assistance for the victim’s child, who aspires to continue studying at an Islamic boarding school. “We have dispatched a team to the location regarding the scholarship that will be given to the victim’s child. The assistance will be provided at least until senior high school level, and even up to university if the child excels,” Arief stated. Meanwhile, Blora Police Head of Public Relations AKP Midiyono confirmed the incident. Based on officers’ examination, no signs of physical abuse were found on the victim’s body. According to Midiyono, family accounts indicated that prior to the incident, the victim and her husband had discussed plans for their child’s education at a boarding school. The family’s economic condition is believed to have placed a heavy burden on the victim. “The strong suspicion is that the victim suffered severe distress due to economic difficulties in financing her child’s education at a boarding school,” he said. The Blora Regency Government has assured that assistance will be provided to the child to ensure their education continues. The local administration also appealed to the public not to hesitate in seeking help when facing educational or economic problems.
