Blora market to be closed

JAKARTA: City market operator PD Pasar Jaya plans to permanently close the Blora traditional market in Menteng, Central Jakarta, in July because of a lack of customers.

"The market is no longer productive as only a few residents shop there," company spokesman Nurman Adhi said.

Nurman said at least 30 traders in the market would be affected by the closure.

"But we have already informed them of the plan. They will be moved to the nearby Tebet Timur market," he said.

He said the company had not yet decided what to do with the market after its closure.

The company has announced plans to close six other markets, besides Blora. They are the Karet Pedurenan and Kramat Baru markets in Central Jakarta; Sawah Barat and Cipinang markets in East Jakarta; and Kramat Jaya and Cilincing markets in North Jakarta. --JP
