Bloody Conflict in Adonara Draws Attention, Regent Urged to Act Swiftly

A bloody conflict that has resurfaced in Adonara, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is drawing significant attention from various parties. The dispute, allegedly triggered by land issues, is said to be a recurring problem. NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena and NTT Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) member Ana Waha Kolin have both called on East Flores Regent Antonius Doni Dihen to act swiftly to quell the conflict and prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Governor Laka Lena stated that the land dispute conflict in the Adonara region is not a new phenomenon. He noted that such issues have repeatedly led to conflict and are a major concern for the East Flores Regency Government. "This is not a new thing in Adonara. We all know that land issues there can trigger conflicts like this, and it is also a concern for the Regent," Laka Lena said on Monday.

He confirmed that he has communicated with the Regent regarding the handling of the conflict. The current priority for the local government is to strengthen security and facilitate peace between the residents of Narasaosina Village and Waiburak Village. "For now, the focus is on strengthening security so that peace can be achieved. The Regent is also looking for ways to prevent such problems from recurring in the future and to ensure the impacts can be properly managed," he added.

In addition to bolstering security, police and military personnel are currently engaging with the conflicting parties as part of efforts to de-escalate the situation. "The police and the military are also approaching the parties involved so that matters can be explained properly," he said.

NTT DPRD member Ana Waha Kolin urged the local government to take immediate steps to ensure the conflict does not repeat itself. "The East Flores Regency Government must take a stance on this issue immediately. The Regent is also from Adonara, so he surely knows how to resolve the conflict between these two villages. If we take the wrong steps in making a decision, it could trigger a new conflict," she explained. "So, the Regent must take a stance and act quickly to minimise the continuation of the conflict."
