Bloodied Victim's Selfie Leads to Arrest in Brutal Riau Robbery
A brutal robbery against a female company cashier in Kiyap Jaya Village, Bandar Sei Kijang, Pelalawan, Riau, was uncovered in less than 12 hours. A selfie photograph of the victim’s bloodied face became the initial clue in solving the case.
The incident occurred at a savings and loan disbursement office on Jalan Lintas Timur Km 43 on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. That afternoon, the victim, identified by the initials PT (25), was relaxing in her office. Suddenly, the perpetrator arrived, brandishing scissors and stabbing the victim repeatedly until she was incapacitated. The perpetrator then took Rp 76 million from the office safe.
The Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation Unit moved swiftly to uncover the case. The perpetrator, Jodi Alfandi (27), was arrested less than 12 hours after the incident, in the early hours of Thursday, 18 June 2026. “The perpetrator was successfully identified and secured within less than 12 hours of the incident,” stated Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara in a press release on Friday (19/6/2026).
The perpetrator, Jodi Alfandi, arrived alone by motorbike at the office. He initially pretended to ask to use the toilet while observing the situation. “At 2:00 p.m. WIB, the perpetrator came to monitor the situation. After realising the victim was alone, he pretended to use the toilet and stole a pair of yellow-handled scissors from an outside table to use as a weapon,” said Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation Head AKP Bayu Ramadhan Effendi.
About two hours later, at 4:50 p.m. WIB, the perpetrator returned to the office, whose door was open. He immediately threatened and pointed the scissors at the victim, forcing her to hand over the safe key. “However, the victim refused and screamed for help, so the suspect committed violence against her by restraining her, throwing her to the floor, stepping on her head, kicking her, and stabbing her repeatedly with the scissors until the scissors bent and injured the suspect’s fingers,” he explained. The suspect also hit the victim with an electric fan. In a blind rage, the perpetrator then grabbed a screwdriver from the cashier’s desk and stabbed the victim repeatedly until she was covered in blood. “The victim was in a weakened state, then the suspect demanded she hand over the key to the safe where the money was stored,” he added.
After successfully seizing the safe key, the perpetrator made off with approximately Rp 76 million in cash from the safe. Before fleeing, he washed his injured hands in the toilet and then damaged the front terrace CCTV camera with a stone.
After the perpetrator fled with the money from the safe, the victim mustered all her strength to reach her mobile phone. She then sent a selfie photograph with her bloodied face to a friend, asking for help. “After the perpetrator fled, the victim, in a weakened state, tried to sit in the cashier’s chair and sent a selfie of her blood-covered face to her colleague via WhatsApp with the message ‘Help Gung, I’m about to be killed’,” said Bayu. Shortly after, the victim’s colleague named Agung arrived with witness Harun Effendi. However, upon arriving at the office, the door was closed and the witnesses were afraid to enter, so they contacted local residents. “After residents arrived, the witnesses entered and saw the cashier’s room door was open, blood was splattered on the floor, and the victim was seated with her head resting on the table, semi-conscious with her entire body covered in blood,” he explained.
The victim was then taken to Efarina Hospital in Pangkalan Kerinci. At the same time, Agung contacted the National Police call centre 110 to report the robbery.
The escape of the brutal robber who stabbed the company cashier in Pelalawan, Riau, was short-lived. The perpetrator, Jodi Alfandi (27), was apprehended in less than 24 hours. The pursuit was dramatic; the perpetrator attempted to run over a police officer before being immobilised with a gunshot to the leg. AKP Bayu Ramadhan Effendi stated his team immediately launched a pursuit after receiving the robbery report. “From processing the crime scene and CCTV footage around the location, we finally identified the individual as Jodi Alfandi,” he said. On Thursday (18/6) at around 3:30 a.m. WIB, the team received information that the perpetrator was travelling from Pekanbaru to Seikijang Airport. The team immediately gave chase. “The perpetrator then passed by and the team tried to stop him, but he accelerated his vehicle and attempted to hit one of the officers,” he said. Unwilling to let their suspect escape, police fired a measured shot after warnings were ignored. The perpetrator was secured after being immobilised by a gunshot to his leg. “Because the perpetrator resisted, the team took firm, measured action and successfully incapacitated him,” he stated. A search found Rp 36,370,000 in cash on him.
Police arrested the brutal robber who stabbed the woman identified as PT (25). The perpetrator, Jodi Alfandi (25), turned out to be a contract worker at a primary school who confessed to the robbery because he was trapped by online loans. “The preliminary motive we obtained from the examination is economic factors. The perpetrator admitted to being mired in debt, including online loan debt, and needed money to meet personal needs,” said Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara.
