Bandung’s municipal government (Pemkot) is urging all civil servants (ASN) to actively donate blood during Ramadan. The call comes as blood supplies at the Bandung Red Crescent (PMI) office continue to deplete.

“Blood demand in Bandung remains high even though people are observing the fasting month. However, blood stocks at PMI Bandung typically decline significantly during Ramadan. I urge everyone who is in good health to donate blood to the PMI,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan on Monday, 16 March.

Farhan explained that PMI Bandung’s blood stocks often drop dramatically during Ramadan, despite sustained demand from hospital patients. The Mayor revealed he had already donated blood himself several days prior and hopes this initiative will be followed by other civil servants.

“I began this myself last Wednesday. I am confident you can do so as well,” he said.

According to Farhan, blood donation will not endanger health when performed by healthy individuals. The blood donation procedure is straightforward and safe. “The requirements are not burdensome and will not make us ill as long as we do not suffer from serious diseases,” he stressed.

Farhan hopes that increasing numbers of civil servants will participate in blood donations throughout Ramadan. This participation is expected to help meet blood supply needs for the community.

Swiss-Belhotel Airport Yogyakarta has again organised a blood donation drive in collaboration with PMI Wates, Kulon Progo, to ensure adequate blood stock availability in the region. Blood donation initiatives are regarded as a meaningful form of corporate contribution to generate positive impact for society, alongside business growth and sustainability.

The Ministry of Religion, represented by Minister Nasaruddin Umar, has explained that donating blood before entering the holy month of Ramadan offers substantial benefits for blood stock availability. The presence of competent blood service technicians must continue to be promoted to support national health sovereignty.
