Blood flows in non-title bout
JAKARTA (JP): In what looks like a good deal for the Indonesian junior bantamweight, Lamhot Simamora drew against Mexico's Efrain Pintor on Tuesday. The Mexican's left eyebrow was injured and the resulting flow of blood impaired his vision during the second round of the bout, held at the Senayan Basketball stadium.
Three judges scored the 10-round, non-title bout 96-95, 96-96 and 95-95 and declared a draw. The injury troubled Lamhot and his counter-punches were often wide of the mark.
Lamhot, his face covered with his own blood, eventually made amends by forcing blood out of Pintor's right eyebrow in the eighth round. Both Lamhot and Pintor were seeking better rankings during the match, scheduled to contain 12 rounds. Had Lamhot won, he would have qualified to challenge the International Boxing Federation's junior bantamweight champion, Harold Grey. (arf)
