Blood Control Septum Technology Reduces Blood Exposure Risk for Healthcare Workers
B. Braun Indonesia, a medical technology company headquartered in Germany, officially launched the Introcan Safety 3 (IS3), the latest generation of intravenous (IV) catheters, on Friday (23/5/2026). This innovation is designed to help mitigate the risk of blood exposure for healthcare professionals through blood control septum technology, supporting the ‘zero blood exposure’ safety standard.
Daily clinical procedures continue to place nurses and doctors at high risk of blood exposure. According to a clinical systematic review by Fereidouni et al. (2018), contact with blood and bodily fluids occurs more frequently than other occupational incidents. The risk of blood exposure during IV catheter insertion is reported to be up to ten times higher than needle-stick injuries.
To address this challenge, B. Braun has introduced blood control technology that supports a ‘zero visible blood contact’ approach during routine procedures.
Speaking at the launch event in Thamrin Nine, Central Jakarta, the President Director of B. Braun Indonesia, Rainer Ruppel, stated that Indonesia is a strategic market requiring precise, integrated, and reliable healthcare solutions. “The presence of Introcan Safety 3 reflects our commitment to bringing global safety innovations to Indonesia, helping to protect healthcare workers while supporting high-quality patient care,” he said in a press release on Saturday (23/5/2026).
