Blok M Turns into a Sea of People During Long Weekend, 'The Atmosphere is Very Lively'
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Blok M area in South Jakarta is rarely quiet. In fact, the crowds are even bigger during this long weekend.
As observed by Kompas.com on Saturday (16/5/2026), the Blok M area was crowded with visitors of various age groups, from teenagers to families and the elderly.
The crowds began to gather around lunchtime.
In the culinary area, a number of visitors were seen taking turns ordering at various food stalls.
Meanwhile, in the area outside Blok M, pedestrians were seen coming and going even though it had rained briefly.
Raka (26), one of the visitors, said that he and his friends had deliberately come to Blok M during the long holiday.
According to him, Blok M is now one of the main choices for Jakarta residents to spend their weekends or long holidays because it has many options.
“In fact, that’s part of the fun, the atmosphere is very lively,” said Raka when met by Kompas.com in the Blok M area, Saturday.
Raka often spends time around Little Tokyo and the Blok M culinary area.
According to him, the area has a different atmosphere compared to other hangouts in Jakarta because it is more open and diverse.
“In my opinion, what’s good about Blok M is that this area is connected. You can find coffee, food, thrift shops, or just sit and chat,” he said.
He said that the atmosphere in Blok M during the long holiday was indeed much more crowded than on ordinary days. However, according to him, this condition is actually an attraction in itself.
In addition, easy access to transportation is also said to be the reason why the area remains a popular destination for the public.
