Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has launched the ultimate phase design concept for the transformation of the Blok M area. The Blok M district in South Jakarta will be developed into a more modern and integrated zone.

The launch of the transformation concept was conducted by Pramono at Blok M on Tuesday (6/10/2026). He stated that the improvement of Blok M will bring a new dimension to the future face of Jakarta.

“I truly desire that although Blok M undergoes refinement, construction, and revitalisation to become better, more modern, and more organised, I hope that Blok M does not lose its primary soul,” said Pramono.

According to Pramono, Blok M has always possessed a strong character. The area is known as a gathering place for young people, a culinary destination, and a hub for viral trends.

“People refer to this as the ‘State of Blok M’. Therefore, that remains its primary strength,” he added.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT MRT Jakarta, Tuhiyat, stated that the revitalisation is being undertaken to address various challenges in the Blok M area, including the fact that the buildings have now reached 34 years of age.

“The age of the buildings in Blok M has reached 34 years. Our goal is to ensure the safety and structural integrity of these buildings,” said Tuhiyat during the launch of the ultimate phase design concept in South Jakarta.

On the other hand, Blok M remains one of the most visited areas by the public. Tuhiyat noted that there are currently hundreds of active tenants and tens of thousands of daily visitors.

“There are currently 334 active tenants and more than 25,000 visitors every day at this Blok M Hub,” he remarked.

Five Transformations of Blok M

Tuhiyat explained that there are five main transformations prepared for the Blok M revitalisation. The first transformation concerns the terminal. MRT Jakarta will convert the Blok M terminal into a more modern and integrated facility.

“The first transformation is the terminal revitalisation. We will transform the terminal into a modern and integrated form,” he explained.

The second transformation involves the development of a mixed-use area. Blok M will be developed as an accessible, inclusive, and dynamic zone.

Tuhiyat mentioned that this development is part of the ‘Blok M ASEAN’ concept.

“The second transformation is the development of a mixed-use area, where this will become the Blok M ASEAN zone, which will eventually be highly accessible, inclusive, and dynamic,” he said.

The third transformation relates to accessibility and area integration. MRT Jakarta will make the Blok M area more connected, both between transport modes and for pedestrian functionality.

As a result, the public is expected to be able to transfer between different modes of transport more easily and enjoy better pedestrian access.

The fourth transformation involves the development of new commercial destinations. The Blok M area will be equipped with various retail, food and beverage (F&B), lifestyle, and public spaces.

“The fourth is the transformation into new commercial destinations, where there will be various retail, F&B, lifestyle, and public spaces within a single area,” he revealed.

The final transformation is the addition of public open spaces. These areas will be made greener, more active, and more comfortable for community interaction and activities.

“Public open spaces will become greener, more active, and more comfortable for interaction and activities,” he said.

Tuhiyat stated that the total area of Blok M will expand significantly. The total area is expected to become ten times larger, while public open spaces will be five times larger than the current condition.

“The public open spaces, once built, will be five times larger than what exists now. In terms of the total area, it will be ten times larger than it is currently,” he explained.

The Blok M revitalisation will be carried out in stages. MRT Jakarta targets the terminal, retail areas, and podium to be completed and operational by 2029. Meanwhile, the development of the mixed-use area will continue gradually thereafter.

“We target the terminal, retail areas, and podium to be completed and operational in 2029. As for the mixed-use development, it will be completed in stages in the following years,” he added.
