Blok M Remains a Magnet for Jakarta Residents, from Viral Culinary Spots to Vintage Goods
The Blok M area in South Jakarta remains a favourite destination for residents looking to spend their weekends. From youths to the older generation, crowds can be seen filling culinary kiosks, shopping centres, and green open spaces within the district. For many visitors, Blok M offers a wide variety of activities within a single area.
According to one visitor, Raka (26), the bustling atmosphere is actually the main attraction of Blok M because it feels so lively. “The fun part is precisely that (the crowds); the atmosphere is very vibrant,” Raka told Kompas.com in Blok M on Saturday (16/05/2026). He noted that there are always new things to experience in the area, ranging from hunting for food to shopping or simply strolling with friends. Raka also mentioned that trending information on social media has piqued even more curiosity among people to visit Blok M.
The ease of access via public transport serves as another significant advantage for the area. Blok M is connected to various modes of transport, including Mikrotrans, Transjakarta, and the Jakarta MRT. “Taking the MRT is easy, and Transjakarta is also available. Furthermore, the options for hangout spots are endless,” said Raka. There are also several new transport routes that position Blok M as both a starting and ending point for journeys. “It has long been known as a transit point for people. I used to pass through here frequently on city buses. So, Blok M wasn’t always a hangout spot like it is now, but rather a place for daily activities,” added Mashudi.
