Blok M Quiet Ahead of Eid, Shops Closed, Visitors Can Only Enjoy the Silence

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The atmosphere in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, ahead of Eid on Friday (20/3/2026) at 11:00 WIB is still observed to be quiet with few visitors, and many shops yet to open. Around the entrance to Blok M Square, activity does not appear lively. Vehicle traffic is relatively sparse compared to usual days. Several shops in the shopping area are still closed. Only a few tenants are seen to be operating, such as jewellery stores, clothing shops, and some food outlets. Occasionally, the sound of footsteps, light conversations among visitors, and vehicles passing in the distance can be heard. On one side of the road, cleaning staff are seen hosing down the floor, reinforcing the sense of emptiness in the area. From inside the building, announcements over the loudspeaker convey adjustments to operating hours in preparation for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. It is stated that on Saturday (21/3/2026), Blok M Square will operate from 12:00 to 22:00 WIB. On normal days, the shopping centre usually opens from 10:00 to 22:00 WIB. One visitor, Wira (28), a resident of Central Jakarta, said he came to Blok M to buy personal needs ahead of Eid. “Tomorrow is already Eid, so I’m taking the opportunity to get what I need. But it turns out many are already closed,” he said.
